American Psycho- Brett Easton Ellis

Claimed as a new classic to add to our 'must read' list that never ends. I checked it out excited to read about Patrick Bateman who lives a double life and has psychological issues that are influenced by our violent world we now live in.

I didn't finish the book. So this might not be such an accurate or well representation of the book as a whole so please forgive me if I seem one sided. Also, upon more research there was more to this story than just that. I had assumed he was a psychopath killer but it involved more than that.

I did not like Patrick in any way and that is not always a surprise for me since some characters grow on me and others I just criticize the whole time. He was a pompous rake. He attended a party where there was drinking, suggested drug use, and discovered that his girlie and best friend were having an affair. Then I was blindsided by masturbation. Like what the heck! He had just returned home then bang! I almost puked I was so horrified by what I just read.

I closed the book at that point. I bet its only added in there because any kind of sex sells in this society and what a FANTASTIC opener. B.S! Grr! All I wanted to do was read about a murderer but alas I was scarred for life instead and ran it back to the library.

I will also pay more attention to the books I add to my 'must read' section because some reviews and summaries mention the level of sexuality I was ignorant of until now. Sorry this one was a bust I hope you enjoy the spring weather. :D I am.
